Almaz (አልማዝ) is the Amharic and Tigrinya word for "diamond" — derived from the Arabic al-mās. Used widely in Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Almaz Ayana (born 1991) is the Ethiopian Olympic gold medalist long-distance runner who broke the 10,000m world record in 2016.
Almaz reduces to seven — the number of Amharic diamond.
