Anasuya (अनसूया) combines the Sanskrit an (not) and asūyā (envy) — "free from envy." **The wife of the sage Atri** — when the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva) came in disguise to test her chastity by demanding she serve them naked, **she turned them into infants instead**. The trinity's wives begged her to restore them, and her son Dattatreya was born as their incarnation. **One of the most revered ideal wives in Hindu tradition.**
Featured throughout the Ramayana and Puranas.
Anasuya reduces to four — the number of Sanskrit ideal wife.
