Anjali (अंजलि) is the Sanskrit name for the gesture of pressing the palms together at the heart in greeting or prayer — añjali mudrā. The word also means "offering" or "to offer," particularly an offering made with cupped hands.
Anjali is widely used across India and the South Asian diaspora. The Indian dancer-choreographer Anjali Anand and the character Anjali in the Bollywood film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) are well known. Today the name is rising in Western records.
Anjali reduces to eight — the number of offering and reverence.
