Maayan (מַעְיָן) is the Hebrew word for "spring" or "fountain" — particularly a natural spring of fresh water. The Maayan ha-Hayyim ("spring of life") is a recurring image in Hebrew poetry.
Maayan is widely used in modern Israel for both boys and girls. In the U.S. it remains in the Jewish diaspora.
Maayan reduces to seven — the number of living water.
