Mamaea (Julia Avita Mamaea, c. 180-235) was the Syrian-Roman empress — niece of Septimius Severus, mother of Emperor Severus Alexander, whom she ruled through for thirteen years. Origen, the early Christian theologian, lectured at her court. Killed beside her son when their soldiers mutinied.
Featured in Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall.
Mamaea reduces to seven — the number of Severan empress.
