Meerabai is from the Sanskrit mīrā (मीरा — ocean) + bāī (बाई — Marwari feminine honorific). A modern American baby name in the broader Sanskrit-Rajasthani heritage aesthetic. Mirabai (c. 1498-1547) was a Hindu mystic, Krishna devotee, Bhakti saint-poet, and princess of Mewar. One of the greatest figures of the Bhakti movement (12th-17th centuries), princess of the Rathore clan of Merta (Rajasthan), married Prince Bhoj Raj of Mewar (Sisodia clan) at age 18. Her poetic compositions — the Meera Bhajans (over 1,300 surviving devotional songs in Rajasthani, Braj, Gujarati, and Hindi) — form one of the great corpora of Indian devotional poetry. Famous compositions include Payo ji maine Ram Ratan dhan payo, Jago bansiwaale, and Mere to Giridhar Gopal. Subject of the film Meera (1979) starring Hema Malini, directed by Gulzar, with music by Pandit Ravi Shankar.
