Nargis (نرگس) is the Persian and Urdu word for the narcissus / daffodil flower — from the Greek narkissos. Nargis Dutt (1929-1981) — Indian film actress; one of the greatest stars of Hindi cinema's Golden Age; her role as Radha in *Mehboob Khan's Mother India (1957) — the first Indian film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, losing by one vote, made her one of the iconic figures of post-independence India.
