Pasiphae (Πασιφάη) combines the Greek pas (all) and phaos (light) — "all-shining." Daughter of Helios the sun god and wife of King Minos of Crete — mother of Ariadne, Phaedra, and the Minotaur.
One of Jupiter's moons (Pasiphae, 1908) is named for her.
Pasiphae reduces to eight — the number of Cretan queen.
