Suriyothai (สุริโยทัย, d. 1548) combines the Thai-Sanskrit suriya (sun) and uthai (rising). **The Thai queen consort of King Maha Chakkraphat of Ayutthaya** — **she rode into battle disguised as a male officer when Burma invaded Siam in 1548**. Seeing her husband about to be killed by the Burmese viceroy in an elephant duel, **she drove her own elephant between them and was cut down in his place**. **The most revered queen in Thai history.**
