Telesilla (Τελέσιλλα, 5th c. BCE) was the lyric poet of Argos who **led the women of Argos in armed defense of the city** against the Spartan king Cleomenes I (494 BCE) after most of the male warriors had been killed. The Argives commemorated her with a statue.
Featured in Pausanias's Description of Greece and Plutarch's Mulierum virtutes.
Telesilla reduces to nine — the number of Greek defender-poet.
