Uppalavanna combines the Pali uppala (blue lotus) and vanna (color). **Uppalavanna was the Buddha's chief female disciple alongside Khema** — declared **foremost in supernatural powers (iddhi)** among the bhikkhunīs. Originally born of remarkable beauty, she became enlightened and was famous for her magical attainments.
Featured in the Therigatha and Pali canon.
Uppalavanna reduces to three — the number of Buddhist iddhi-disciple.
