Bathild combines the Old German bald (bold) and hild (battle) — "bold battle." Saint Bathild (c. 626-680) was the Anglo-Saxon slave who rose to become Queen of the Franks, married Clovis II, and ruled as regent for her son. Founded the abbey of Chelles. Canonized for her work freeing slaves.
Rare but iconic in early medieval scholarship.
Bathild reduces to three — the number of Frankish queen.
