Saranyu (सरण्यू) is from the Sanskrit root sṛ ("to flow, run"). **The Vedic goddess of the dawn-clouds** — **wife of Vivasvant (the sun) and mother of Yama and Yami** (the first humans / Lord of Death). **The earliest Indo-European goddess associated with the cloud-mares**, and the etymological root of the Greek *Erinyes* (the Furies). **Her cosmic chase by the sun is one of the foundational myths of the Rigveda.**
